Draft amendments to the Real Estate Act now state that:

“Employee estate agents shall complete the Further Education and Training Certificate: Real Estate, the curriculum in respect of which is registered under SAQA Qual.”

It is because of this change in legislation, concerning all estate agents that the Assessment Centre for Estate Agents was founded.
Vivien Marks and Debbie Knipe, two experts in the industry, recognised the need to inform all current estate agents what this means for them and to introduce them to the tools that have been provided to help them through the process.

All full status Estate Agents have to reapply for their Fidelity Fund Certificate. This can be done through a Recognition of Prior Learning ( RPL) programme.

“Recognition of Prior learning is a process whereby through assessment, Credit is given to learning which has already been acquired in different ways.” – SAQA Publications: Criteria & Guidelines for assessment of NQF Registered Unit Standards & Qualifications.

The Programme is not a training programme. It is a process of assessment where you submit Evidence against the Qualification in a document called a Portfolio of Evidence (POE). Agents will be required to attend a session where the entire process is introduced and explained. Once the POE is completed it is submitted to Services SETA. If an agent has 5 years (or more) experience and is deemed competent, he/she can then apply for the Fidelity Fund Certificate. If the Estate Agent has less than 5 years experience, the same process applies, except that a professional designation examination will have to be undertaken.
